Waterside Cabin – Luxury self-catering studio for two – now available!

Well it took a little longer than we had planned, but we are delighted to say that Waterside Cabin, our luxury self-catering studio for two in Skye, is now complete and has welcomed its very first guests. Gone is the old dilapidated cabin that had been in situ since the 1970’s and in its place is what is now our favourite place to spend an afternoon. With picture windows looking out to the sea and a large roof light, it is an airy and cosy space and perfect for watching the skies and the tides. And as a spot to

Permission approved for new distillery on Raasay

We’re so pleased to hear that plans to create a new distillery on Raasay have been approved. Highland Council planners gave their backing to the project which will convert the Victorian Borodale House into a distillery, visitor centre and luxury accommodation in a move which will bring much needed income to this beautiful island. Vole and bat specialists had to be consulted as part of the planning discussion, but with approval granted R&B Distillers say construction work will start in April, with whisky in production from early 2017. You can read more about the project here The ferry to Raasay

Skye gets second Michelin star

Kinloch Lodge, just ten minutes’ drive from the cottage is a long time favourite of ours. Mixing Highland tradition with real luxury it is always a treat to have their afternoon tea, a morning coffee or of course, to sample their fabulous dinner menu. We recommend the tasting menu with wine flight for a really special evening out. They have held their Michelin star with chef Marcello Tully for some years now and the food never fails to surprise. So it was great news back in September to hear that the fabulous Three Chimneys under chef Michael White had also

Macbeth comes to Skye

Skye is no stranger to Hollywood and has been used for many locations recently. Drawing on its stunning locations and atmospheric weather, it has featured on the opening of Prometheus and more recently has been the main filming location for Macbeth,  directed by Justin Kernel. The film stars Michael Fassbender as the titular fearless warrior and Marion Cotillard as the tortured Lady Macbeth. What you won’t see on screen is just how hardy the actors were in getting the film made. Passing them several times at Sligachan in the rain.. in kilts.. you had to hand it to them for their

January light makes for stunning photography

We know – January has been pretty cold and dark but then along comes a day which makes up for everything else. Earlier this week the clouds cleared, the sky was blue and the sun came out and this was the result, taken at 10am with the sun low on the horizon. Just beautiful. This was taken on the shore just in front of Waterside. You can see Beinn na Caillach in the background, a great short mountain walk if you’re feeling active with the reward of panoramic 360 views from the top on a good day. If you are
